Ralph meet Anthro

I have briefly looked at EmersonMade's website before, but only noticed the flower accessories. Today my friend ruined or made my Friday (depending on whether you're talking to my accounting angel or my accounting devil) when she sent me a link to EmersonMade's spring line. I want it ALL! Literally. And that says a lot because I am fairly difficult to please. The only reason I don't have too many clothes and spend way too much is because I never find anything that knocks my socks off...until today.

The Spring lines is like Ralph Lauren meets Anthropology. The classic, vintage reminds me of RL while the soft fabric and scalloped edges remind me of Anthro. Here are a few of my favorite pieces that I've already reserved.

Cheap Sheke: Shabby Chic

In an attempt to catch a break from the cold wind while wandering through the streets of NYC, I ducked into a store neatly tucked away in Soho and by chance, discovered quite the find-Purl! When I opened the door and saw it was a knitting store, I almost turned around and left, but the bright, soft colored yarn intrigued me. I may have dodged my mother's many attempts to teach me to sew, but I still enjoy the fruits of her labor so I promptly purchased for her the "More Last Minute Knitted Gifts." (I am crossing my fingers she still doesn't "get the point of blogs" and isn't reading this)

Inside I not only found patterns for sweaters, scarves, and gloves, but also knitted cupcakes.

I love different cake stands, so I thought, why not have my mom knit some cakes so I always have dessert to adorn a cake stand. If you can't pawn this activity off to your mom, etsy also has some beautiful knitted cupcakes. I prefer the ones with very light, whispy thread as the icing otherwise they look a little too much like something my grandmother might own.

All I want for Christmas

I use Christmas to get the necessarities I've been eyeing all year long. This year, I desperately need a new, black leather tote, cell phone, perfume and sunglasses. My current casual black tote should have been trashed years ago, I am almost out of my favorite perfume, and as my sweet boyfriend continues to point out, my sunglasses hurt my eyes more than they help so it's time to trade in for polarized lens.

Designer labels aren't just for dresses

Every year, I look forward to picking out my new Kate Spade Christmas cards. Over the past decade there has been an unfortunate trend of personalized holiday cards. Why do I say unfortunate? Because ironically these personalized cards aren't very personal at all. Instead, they've become more about the person sending them than the person receiving them. We would never send a birthday card contained with stories of how awesome our birthdays were so why have people resorted to sending cards sometimes with just a photo, and a one-size fits all typed letter without so much as a handwritten signature? In the era of facebook, I have more than enough photos of your past year to satisfy my cyber-stalking heart's desires. I realize I may step on...well... almost everyone's toes, and my point is not to condemn but perhaps encourage people to pick out stationary that reflects your taste and style and send handwritten personal Christmas cards--I promise your friends and family will be delighted!

About Me

Washington, DC
They say, "DC has Northern hospitality with a southern pace of progress." The same is true when it comes to fashion: southern style combined with the restrictions of Northern weather and Wall-Street black suit. My goal is to add some color to the mix on the limited budget most young professionals in the District face.
